UNICORN CLINIC 4th and 5th FEBRUARY 2012.
IT SNOWED! - Lorries were effectively snowed in until midday Sunday.
SO GLAD TO HEAR EVERYONE safely reached home - it was fairly tricky even at midday.

Some riders went home on Saturday to miss the snow - Becca Bell came came on foot to help.
Dan was very good and we saw a real improvement in everyone on day two - yes Dan was very
brave and came back this morning in a 4x4 and taught the 7 brave riders who had stayed over.
Test Riding was won by Amelia Helyard on Korenbleum Thunder - Elementary. A very close
2nd was Ollie Booth on DHI Good Luck. 3rd Fiona Brennan on DHI Rainman and 4th Harriet
Walker-Smith on her pony George. Well done all of you - there were some really smart tests.

We had a lovely group of younger riders - and a big thank you to Katie Newland who took them
under her wing in the evening and got them all inter-acting with each other. Good fun. Katie is
training with Olivia Oakeley who came to watch. Olivia has built us an U21s UK Facebook Page.
I am still very green with this so it will take a little while to get all the New Friends organised!

NB Dan Greenwood has moved - on 31st January he moved to Lady Inchcape`s new
smart purpose built yard
at Northfield Farm, Evenlode - Moreton-in-Marsh, GL56 OYT.
We would like to wish Dan & Jamie continued success and a happy time at Orchard Cottage.

EASTER 2012 - RUNNERS AT THE CDI - ADDINGTON MANOR EC.
This is an amazing opportunity to watch European Pony-Juniors & Yrs competing in England.
U21s UK have been invited by BD to send some U21s UK members as runners over the 3 days.
You will work together to collect sheets and take them to the scorers - in return you will be able
to watch a lot of dressage - lunch will be provided - with plans for a commemorative gilet 2012.
If you would like to be a part of the CDI - and see the top British riders compete too - please
contact me in the first instance. It takes a long time to co-ordinate such a big event - and names
will need to be put forward well in advance. Mrs. Islay Auty will be the CDI Co-Organiser in 2012.
I will put a list of the names forward on the SQUAD PAGE.

2012 SQUADS HAVE BEEN REVIEWED - CLICK ON THE SQUAD PAGE
Due to the very high achievements of 3 members we now have a PREMIER ELITE GOLD *** Squad.
I am sure when you read of their success in 2011 you will agree that they have been outstanding.
Sam Thurman Baker (18) on Spring Pascal was the leading GBR rider in Denmark - earning the Trophy
for best rider at the Europeans, was 7th at PSG and 11th in the Grand Prix at the BD Nationals.
Sam can be seen at the National Convention at the end of the month, where she will be a guinea pig.
Beth Barnett (just 21) - was an original Fledgling at the age of 9 years - Qualified her 3 young
horses for
the Nationals at Elementary & Medium - and was placed on all. She is on the new BEF Exell Squad.

Olivia Oakeley (18) - Donna Summer - (also began as a Fledgling) member GBR Junior European Team -
qualified Open Advanced Medium at the Nationals and has been awarded the Hartpury Scholarship
.

Results are put on our website as a part of a Membership reward for support. Please do continue
to keep in touch though - as I really like to hear how everyone is progressing!

A GREAT LESSON WITH DIANE THURMAN-BAKER.
In March Diane - along with several other top trainers - kindly donated a Training Grant to be used
by the end of October 2011. As the recipient hadn`t taken up this wonderful opportunity - I took
Fledlging Ollie Booth there today to ride Chips. He was worked on the lunge without stirrups, then
in hand - to feel shoulder-in, travers, pirouettes. Ollie was given the opportunity to ride on his own
to keep the pony in front of the leg - through to the connection and to perform lateral movements in
walk and trot which he managed to do really well. We will go back for a second lesson - when he will
be able to work towards canter half pass and many other exciting things. Thank you so much Diane.

I will update the 2012 Squad Page this weekend.

AN ACCIDENT IN YOUR LORRY - WHAT YOU SHOULD DO!
Did you know that the police will only attend if there are people injured? However you must inform them.
Then do what this member did and take lots of photographs for your insurance company - including the
registration of the `other vehicle`. Skid marks caused by the `other vehicle` show it was obviously travelling
at great speed and did not avoid the stationary lorry (witnesses say that he was on his mobile `phone).
Take witness statements yourself and your insurance company will then deal with the whole situation.

Well done Phoebe at Moorsele, Belgium for your first International !
11 year old Phoebe and Hillmen finished with commendable scores at their first CDI abroad.
However Phoebe retired in the Kur (15 riders qualified) as the weather was so bad Hillmen
became upset and couldn`t concentrate with the very high winds and rain. The trip home was
pretty awful too and they were all glad to get back to Gloucester in the early hours of Monday.

Well donePhoebe.

WELCOME to our 90th Dressage U21s UK Member 2011.

Millie Peters and Robin 2Z training at Peter Storr`s Yard where they are based.

With yet another cold*snap thrust upon*us
I realise how lucky we were to have held our lovely, friendly Christmas Clinic.
Let`s hope that the next snow is brief and not too much disruption is caused.
I heard that a Ollie Booth - a very `lucky Fledgling` - had Roly for Christmas,
This super pony, currently owned by Eve Croghan - formerly owned by Corall
Tomalin has been a star with both - so Ollie is sure to have fun!!!!!!

CHRISTMAS CLINIC - UNICORN 11th-12th December.
Joanna & Rose - Pirate Becca Bell - Cavalier Rose Hugh Smith - Charlotte Self.

A super weekend - masses of fun and laughter - great training - great trainers.
Rob Lumb and Serena Pincus were fabulous and it was all such Fun - Fun - Fun!
The Novice Freestyle was won by Katie Newland on Tafi with 71.2% and the Open
Freestyle was won by Charlotte Self on Ellare Flare Molly with 86%. Both riders won
a lovely U21s UK Numnah. Best Fancy dress was 7 year old Maddy Whelan on Robbie
as a Xmas Tree with Green Face & Flashing Lights) wlnnlng a cuddly white Teddy Bear.
The Xmas Trees also won the Team games - with the Father Christmas`s second.
I personally loved the `Pirates of the Caribean` with Becca Bell in a sumptuous coat and
Rose Hugh Smith and Joanna Thurman-Baker in the Pas de deuxe with a difference.
THANK YOU so much to Kate Hugh Smith for the Champagne - which was toooo nice!
THANK YOU everyone who kindly gave me a present - I will save them until the 25th!

Party time - Mums enjoying supper - Verity - Becca - Olivia and are happy too.

Sadly some riders couldn`t get there at the last minute - but because all meals had
been booked in advance - we cannot give refunds. The Trainers and the Venue also
had to be paid for - and we cannot now afford to carry anything forward from this Clinic
I am really sorry about this. It costs well over £4,000 per weekend to put on a Clinic like
this for members - we have to stay in credit for this to happen. We cannot pay the Unicorn
and return your Fees. However - if a Clinic is cancelled by us - a full refund will be made.

MEMBERSHIP 2011 - Sadly this is down and without support we are not going
to be able to continue to provide the same kind of top Training Clinics in the future.
Membership Insurance is paid to Shearwater Insurance before our Fees come in - we have
to pay on an estimate of the numbers we think we will have. We paid for the same number
as 2010 - but have only half the membership to date. It is surprising that our annual fee has
proven too much - but sadly it has. But
USE IT OR LOOSE IT - is very true. Just £35.00
THE CALENDAR 2011 - Sadly these have not sold as well as usual and we will
lose a lot of money on them.
I am both disappointed and surprised that even riders who
were
chosen to be in the 2011 Calendar have not ordered a copy? Just £6.00
CLOTHING - This has almost sold out with our new Hoodie & Zoodie Range.

IN STOCK 2 Red Hoodies 9/11yrs & 13/14yrs @ £18 - 3 Black Zoodies Sm.Adult @ £20 .
HEADBANDS/NECKWARMERS £5 each 25 sets were ordered - and now sold out!

I hope you are all coped with the Winter Weather - Brrrr!
